Cal-Sportbike TrackXperience Announces Tracstar Challenge
Certification Program
, 2006 Schedule, Structure Changes, Rider Amenities

The Tracstar Challenge is a skills-based rider certification and awards program which focuses on developing both physical and mental bike control skills and safety habits. It is inspired by proven sports training programs that have worked well for decades around the globe. With Tracstar, riders receive formal training and earn recognition for demonstrated proficiency, which should result in a lower future crash risk in any environment.
- Oliver Chami, program creator and former AMA 250GP racer

There is simply too much focus on laying down fast laps at track days at the expense of being a smooth or safe rider. In fact our most successful students have proven that by focusing on smoothness and control they are able to lower their lap times while being safer riders.".
- Todd Robinson, program co-developer and Operations Director

TRACSTAR: Skills Certification, Purpose to Track Riding
(Participation in the Tracstar Challenge is optional at every event)

The program consists of graduated levels of demonstrated proficiency in riding, with new riders starting at the Bronze level with basic performance riding including line selection, visual skills, and braking control. The Silver and Gold levels require graduated levels of proficiency in many areas of riding skills from throttle, shifting, and brake control to body positioning and passing safety, and the Master level is truly a goal showing that a rider has also demonstrated proficiency in trail braking and close proximity passing among several other advanced skills.

At the completion of each Level, riders are awarded completion certificates, patches for their leathers, and stickers for their bikes. These badges of recognition will signal to the rider and to the rest of the riding community that the Tracstar graduate has attained a certain level of motorcycle proficiency and is on the way to the ultimate accolade--Master Rider. To earn these "bragging rights," riders will compete against themselves (and each other) for skill--not sheer speed. But make no mistakes about it, speed will come with skill. Tracstar graduates will be safer and faster riders. How Tracstar graduates choose to use their newfound skills is up to them.

STRUCTURE CHANGES: Format, More Track Time, More Amenities

The Tracstar™ Challenge Program will be launched on the west coast for 2006 at Cal-Sportbike track events. To support the implementation of the program, Cal-Sportbike events are being restructured to a more comprehensive rider education program, with Level 1 students working on "Novice to Intermediate" skills (i.e. Tracstar Bronze or Silver) and Level 2 students working on "Intermediate to Advanced" skills (i.e. Tracstar Gold or Master Rider). Level 1 instruction will be conducted through a comprehensive school program that has been refined over the past years, and Level 2 instruction will be conducted through one-on-one coaching with Cal-Sportbike/Tracstar instructors.

Level One:
First time track riders and those "regulars" who like a more relaxed pace, have slower/older/classic bikes, or wish to attend the level one school (regardless of personal skill). Knee dragging is certainly fine in this group, but the focus is on learning to ride better and working on skills.
Level Two:
Experienced riders only. Oriented toward riders who want to take a faster pace, with more lean angle and straightaway speeds. If you cannot be predictable and hold your line, we will move you to the Level One group to work with you more. Racers and "fast guys" are still welcome but "gentleman's rules" apply and overly aggressive riding is not tolerated. Our view is that if we can have AMA pros join us and pass people with courtesy and safety, so can you!

Our existing customers will continue to enjoy our events as open riding will still be allowed in BOTH groups alternating with 30 minute on-track sessions. To ensure a low number of incidents and the most "up time" possible, group sizes will generally be 15-20% smaller than most on-track providers. In addition, prudent passing rules that have kept our events among the safest in the nation will continue to be strictly enforced.

CSTX

With a level 1 riding school to rival some 'big name" riding schools, Cal-Sportbike TrackXperience has helped scores of riders achieve personal success and learn valuable skills with a comprehensive educational approach and friendly one-on-one coaching. Yet with our track day roots, we still feel that open lapping has great value for personal enjoyment for our riders and with the optional Tracstar Challenge there is more purpose to riding. The result? A program with the best elements of schools and track days, with a pricing point much closer to the "open" track days than a pricey school, yet with a multitude of amenities not even offered by most riding schools. The bottom line...what is the best possible day of track riding worth to you?

The cost-to-benefit is clear; 50% more track time than 3-group rotations with fewer riders on course (as opposed to crowding the track to make a 2-group format feasible), and some incredible amenities to round out a great day at the track. Some people just want the most from every day at the track, and we're here for their needs.

Amenities for 2006 have expanded to include a full catered buffet breakfast with Starbucks
® coffee, plus catered buffet lunch, complimentary beverage service, complimentary chair massage therapy, suspension tuning/setup services, videography, tire service, and photography (see event listings for details on specific amenities at select venues).
